Getting started

  1. Install Edubba from the Mac App Store and open it. No account needed.
  2. Drag in a file, paste text, or use quick-capture to save your first thought.
  3. Try searching — type a few words about what you saved and Edubba will find it by meaning, not just exact keywords.
  4. (Optional) For AI chat, add your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key in Settings.
  5. (Optional) For backups, connect your Google Drive in Settings.

Pro features

Edubba is free to capture, search, and organize. Edubba Pro unlocks:

  • AI Chat — Ask questions in natural language across your memories. Uses your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key, so you pay only for what you use directly to the provider.
  • Explore — Visualize your memories as maps, timelines, and connection graphs.

Frequently asked questions

Where is my data stored?

On your Mac, in an encrypted SQLCipher database. Nothing is uploaded to our servers — we don't have servers.

How does AI chat work if my data stays on my Mac?

When you ask a question, Edubba retrieves relevant snippets from your local database and sends only those snippets plus your question directly to OpenAI or Anthropic using your own API key. We never see your queries, your content, or your API key. Your key is stored securely in the macOS Keychain.

Do I pay for AI chat?

Two separate costs: Edubba Pro (which unlocks the chat feature in the app) and API usage (which you pay directly to OpenAI or Anthropic per query). API queries are typically a fraction of a cent.

What happens if I lose my Mac?

If you enabled backups, your encrypted backup is in your own Google Drive — install Edubba on a new Mac and restore from there. If you didn't enable backups, your data lived only on the lost device.

How do backups work?

Backups are encrypted locally before being uploaded to your personal Google Drive. We don't have access to your Google account or your backups — authentication is handled directly between Edubba and Google.
